Project Name: Luang Prabang Historic Area Landscape Survey
Project Narrative
In February 2023, the Government of Japan and the Government of the Lao PDR agreed on the implementation of the “Project on Sustainable Urban and Development Transport Management in Luang Prabang in Lao PDR.
The project has started in March 2023, and aims to contribute to:
1) Sustainable tourism development, and
2) Traffic management in Luang Prabang
In the project, the landscape and town management, mainly of the historic area, shall be considered, due to the illegal parking and inflow of numerous vehicles and, above all, the recent socioeconomic and urban development trends that impact the area
Objective
The survey objectives are as follows:
Conduct street/alley inventory in order to contribute in the following ways to the project.
1) To be the base of the transport masterplan.
2) To be the base of pilot projects.
Survey Area
The survey area is the World Heritage Zone, mainly within Luang Prabang City, Left Bank of the Nam Khan.

– Conduct a site to visit the survey area.
– to verify the latest situation and update the old and obsolete information, to take pictures,
– Collect information according to survey items: Road/Alley profile, Roadside Buildings, Sidewalk, Streetlamps, Overhead Cables, Obstacles/ Occupancy, Roadside trees/ Vegetation in survey location: Main Roads, Secondary/Tertiary Roads, Pedestrian Alleys
– Summarize information and draw GIS map and conduct GIS data base
