Project Name: Consulting Services for Master Plan Establishment of Flood Forecasting & Warning System

Project Narrative

Laos’ flood vulnerable areas are distributed across the entire country as lowland and main streams of the Mekong River. It is vulnerable to flooding in the downtown area located at the lower part of the river due to the gentle river slope. Also, the increasing human damage from floods and heavy rains is caused by the discharge of the dam without forecast
Also, due to the lack of hydro-logical observation data management and monitoring facilities

Project Objective

• Evaluate the current state of flood forecasting & warning and early warning systems across Laos and draw up improvement measures
• Establishment & proposal of structural design (Embankment, Revetment, etc.) targeted for areas in urgent needs of flood damage measures
• Implementation of SDGS as determined by the 70th UN General Assembly (SDGS 6. Clean Water and Sanitation) Strengthening the ability to respond to natural disasters by establishing a national flood warning system
• (SDGS 13. Climate Action) Adaptation to climate change and reduction of climate change impact
